Why I LOVE American Idol

by on May 10, 2011

Well, it’s Season 10 of a revamped American Idol and it’s been GREAT!

For starters, the talent level this year has been stellar. There have been several nights when Tom and I could not decided who NOT to vote for, it was that tough. Now, it’s coming down to the wire and it’s anybodies guess as to who will actually win it.

My personal favorite is James Durbin. I think he is very talented and can sing just about anything. He loves to perform and create good effects on the audience. That is a wonderful thing.

Haley is also another one of my favorites. She has a beautiful voice, she gutsy and she’s got heart. All things that I find very endearing. Her performance last week, “The House of the Rising Sun,” was phenomenal. One of the best I’ve ever seen. I have probably listened to it another 5 or 6 times on YouTube in the last week, I enjoyed it so much.

I think America’s favorite may be Scotty McCreary. He is the boy next door, the kid I’d love to have over to dinner. We could talk about sports and laugh and I’m sure he’d thank me profusely for my apple pie at dessert. He has a very nice voice, a charming smile and a relaxed manner. All things which are very appealing.

Last is Lauren. Not because she is not a great performer. She is extremely talented. I loved her audition to get in to the competition. She obviously deserves to be there and she is one of the top 4 but I’m not sure she can bounce back from last week. It seemed apparent to me that she took the fact that she was in the ‘bottom 2’ pretty hard. I’m hoping she comes back with a vengeance but we will have to wait until tomorrow to see.

I for one, look forward to a continued high level of competition for these youngster’s. As each one of them is extremely good.

As for the judges, I think they are fantastic. I actually appreciate the fact that they are trying to encourage these performers to achieve their very best each week rather than tearing them down. Let’s face it, Simon could be brutal, at times. JLo and Steven have been a breath of fresh air. I hope they are invited back next year. And, Randy is amazing. Hard to believe he’s been with the show since it’s inception.

I wish all the performers the best in the coming weeks. I don’t think there is any shame in being one of the top 5, especially when one considers the level of talent this year.

I, for one, will be glued to the screen over the next few weeks.

Go James!!!
