Tis the Season… To Volunteer

Helping out for the Holidays

Over the years I have always wanted to do something to give back to the community. This year I was very happy that through our Keller Williams Realty office, in Fremont, that I was able to actually DO something about it.

On Wednesday, November, 9th about 30 volunteers from our office helped put together literally thousands of bags for families for Thanksgiving. It was really something. That morning, the first shift started at 9 AM. There were over 15 volunteers for the morning shift, myself being one of them. Then in the afternoon at 1 PM 19 more hardy volunteers arrived.

I am extremely proud of all the volunteers as this was the second time this year that we got together as a group to make people less fortunate than ourselves, a little bit happier this holiday season.

In the morning we had an assembly line going that prepared bags of canned and dried goods for people. All of them included canned veggies, canned fruits, a canned meat item and either rice or beans as they were available. I think we started with beans and when those ran out we switched to rice.

The afternoon shift prepared bags of carrots. And I DO mean bags and bags of carrots. As I recall, there hands were very reddish, orange when they were done.

Tri-City Volunteers is our Charity of choice this year and as a group we have decided to continue to support them next year. They are desperately in need of funds and we, as an office were able to give them a check for over $3000 to help them provide meals throughout the holiday season. The way our office was able to do this is that we have a soda dispenser in our cafeteria and all the funds raised from the sales of soda and chips goes directly to charity of our choosing.
