Not Just Any High School Reunion

by on December 9, 2011

Wow! Hard to believe, but last month I had the pleasure of attending my 35th Class Reunion!

Kendall & I

It was delightful. No fancy hotel! No long line waiting at the bar! Just a chance to get together and catch up with old friends and new in a very relaxed setting. It was held at the El Cerrito Community Center on Moeser Lane. I used to go to the pool there and swim and in high school I went to many dances at the facility. It certainly brought back many fond memories walking up to the front door.

Then the minute I stepped inside it was like I was 17 again. So many wonderful faces. (I hate to admit it, I had not been to a reunion in 25 years. Somehow they had lost my contact info. That will not happen again, thanks to Facebook. I have reconnected to so many wonderful people.) There were LOTS of hugs and plenty of smiles. I think all of us were grinning from ear to ear.

They had lots of nice snacks and tempting desserts, but honestly we were having so much fun talking and taking pictures and laughing that there was tons of food left over. A few of the organizers tried to get me to take some home but I just couldn’t. There was to much food that I am trying to stay away from, as a general rule.

Hopefully we will have more of these gathering, more frequently, as every 5 years is just such a long time to get together. Maybe we can do a potluck Bar-B-Q next summer at the park nearby. It would be great to get together with all our families and relax and share more fun stories about our antics as kids.

One of the funnest moments of the night for me was telling one of the guys that I had a major crush on in high school, that in was, in fact, in love with him, as a kid and for him to be gratified to know that. He was clueless. As I think many of us are, at that age. He looks great and is doing well down in Los Angeles. I am extremely happy for him.

Well, here’s to many happy returns for all of us! Gaucho Power!!!
