Cut that Out!

by on August 24, 2009

Every once in a while, we stumble upon a cool tool that’s like the television remote: We never knew how much we needed it until we got one.

That’s how we feel about the Japanese Hori Hori weeder knife. This is no little kitchen-variety knife. It’s a big, hefty thing with one side serrated for saw-like cutting. It looks like you could use it to eviscerate an elk, if need be.

Even better, it gouges out those nasty, deep-rooted tree seedlings that keep coming back year after year. Use the blade to dig down deep and the saw to cut them off several inches below the soil line—permanently. It’s also good for planting annuals and hacking through hard, dry autumn soil to plant bulbs.

Get your hands on a Japanese Hori Hori weeder knife and cut through the tough work in your garden.
